..this guest vm test is the _only_ valid reason to
(test) run any systemd thing. Do it, and with at
least the same WVU-CAFEE style scrutiny used when
they caught VW et al in Dieselgate.

..log, tcpdump, udpdump, netcat etc every damned
thing it can possibly touch, to see what it does,
and what it tries to do.

..an addressless sniff bridge can be used to tease
out any net traffic, just plug it in between the vm
and the net before booting the vm and just copy all
the net traffic to disk.
(Only done that in hardware, needs 2 addressless
net cards and bridge-utils, sniffing etc was done
to debug my bandwidth throttle code setup for a
small wifi based isp 2 decades ago.)

..this guest vm test will provide a new data point
that may help fix bugs or expose new shenanigans
"from somebody."

..how do you shut it down, in the vm or from the host?

..does the vm guest even need to be shut down, if it can
be "paused" or somesuch by VirtualBox before VirtualBox
is shut down?

..for the vm guest it should just be an "Oh. the clock is
wrong again." type warning message next time VirtualBox
"un-pauses" the guest vm.

..maybe a good time to chk out Xen, QEMU, KVM, Bochs, 86Box?:

..don't be, it was way more readable than your post here.

...I totally believe your ambition here. ;o)
Now, can you verify it? XoD
