Rather than plan9 it is known as quad9.
With opnsense it seems that I will be using DNS-over-TLS using DNSCrypt and DOH.
AIUI that is supposed to remove mz googly and any of her other connections.
Done a little bit of searching.
Have found at least one article where the NSA is recommending to not do such.
So what is the top drawer standard today for 'the rest of us'?
(Networking is NOT my business focus and I really don't have the time to make it
such either.)
