Hi,
I just installed Devuan on a new PC and tried to replicate my current
configuration. However, fbpanel is missing.
On
https://pkginfo.devuan.org/cgi-bin/policy-query.html I found:
fbpanel
7.0-4.2
http://deb.devuan.org/merged chimaera/main amd64
7.0-4
http://deb.devuan.org/merged beowulf/main amd64
7.0-3
http://archive.devuan.org/merged ascii/main amd64
6.1-6
http://archive.devuan.org/merged jessie/main amd64
On Debian, I found
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1022932
It says they remove fbpanel because it depends on Python 2. However,
dependency consists only in the `configure` utility and five helper modules in
./.config, which are used only to create a makefile and a config.h with the
relevant library names and similar.
I find it is a valid alternative to tint2. It would be a pity to loose it.
Perhaps configuration should be rewritten using autoconf or similar tools?
Anyone feeling to fork it?
Best
Ale
