Thank you Ian and Alif for responding.

I cleared the cache and turned plugins off/on. At this
point I seem to have recovered the ad-blocking function,
at least for the moment.

I'm still in the dark about getting to the uBlock plugin's
advanced setup menu.

I appreciate your comments and suggestions.
