I have learned that you cannot trust the dist. to not do something
surprising anymore, so I don't let the dist handle booting anymore,
I have been burned too many times by upstream changes resulting
in unbootable systems, to rely on them.

That is in stark contrast to debian ham ... woody times where I could
fully trust debian doing the right thing.
