Might it be appropriate to let this group know that forcing the use of systemd
is not appreciated?

That way they can't be saying "Well no one said anything!"
(accompanied by much hand wringing!!!!)

AIUI debian itself has backed off supporting only systemd type systems
- - - or am I wrong in that understanding.
