Upon opening the Falkon web browser, absolutely nothing displays -- the title
bar renders normally via the window manager, but the area below the title bar
is completely black, and not even a URL bar is displayed.

Attached is a screenshot of what happens. grep'ing ~/.xsession-errors
for 'falkon' shows the following:

Falkon: Creating new profile directory
Falkon: 1 extensions loaded
Falkon: 1 extensions loaded
Falkon: 1 extensions loaded

Closing: submitter emails bounce, obsolete versions and nothing actionable in
reports.
