Unlike removing systemd, this involves forking about 10-20 times more packages
_AND_ rebuilding everything else.
Maintaining a package means long term commitment - fixing bugs and stuff. IMO a
single maintainer doing 200 packages with properly spread complexity is a full
time job.
Rebuilding Debian is another complex problem, that even Debian with the vast
amount of resources available is not able to handle properly - the build queues
are always full.
As a conclusion we'd better get prepared to accept the usrmerge, like it or
not...
