I haven't tried that - I've used Kali as a standard distro installation in the
past, and I also am disappointed it uses systemd.

I'd be willing to help, and depending on what sort of server you think it
needs, I may have something suitable, or if not, happy to sponsor a VM from
one of the hosting providers I use.
Let's see if anyone else is interested, and then discuss what's actually
needed.
I don't yet know whether I prefer the idea of rolling the Kali tarball
installer into Devuan, or removing systemd from Kali.
