Sorry for the confusion: I meant to write 'terminal emulator' (xterm and alike), not 'virtual terminal'!

If I don't get it wrong, in the graphical environment, gpm is not available and pointer actions are handeled by X11 resp. the terminal emulator.

gpm is only needed for the text console (tty1, tty2, ...).
