You can change this flag in debian/rules:

CONFFLAGS = \
    --exec-prefix= \
    --with-rootprefix= \
    --with-rootlibdir=/lib/$(DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH) \
    --disable-silent-rules \
    --enable-rule-generator
