It is not... and gatchat is unsuitable for this modem. But we are
using it :-(, and it causes subtle/nasty problems.

Yes, I'm. I'm quite happy with ssh. Dmesg would not go over g_acm, anyway?

I don't think it is mechanical. It sounds more like some kind of power
problems really. Do you have rock solid connection with recent
kernels?
