Hi all:
Does it make sense to report famd bugs?
It looks like the project is dead. However, it mostly works. I use it for
Courier-MTA, instead of gamin, because gamin happened to freeze, thereby
disrupting mail access somewhat. famd, instead, crashes. It happens about
monthly, but is easily worked around by launching the daemon anew.
A couple of years ago I tried to catch where the crash occurs. In my spare
time, I looked at the core files, and posted some notes in
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=483811
I never fully debugged the code. Just patched here and there to avoid compiler
warnings.
Now I have a stock, stripped version of famd. I wonder whether to restore my
patches and hope to catch the bug sooner or later. Unlike gamin, famd is not
multi-threaded, so catching the bug shouldn't be a hopeless task. However, the
worthiness of doing so is not clear to me. Does it make sense to report a bug
to Devuan about a package which is formally maintained by Debian?
Best
Ale
