Hi there:

please note that the amd64 and i386 ISO sets for ASCII 2.1 are almost
there, and as they are prepared through a new and different production
process, they need an additional review. Please go to
https://borta.rrq.id.au to download.

The three bootable ISO variants (netinst, cd1 and dvd1) all supposedly
have four different kinds of bootstrap options:
1) bios (legacy) boot via isolinux
2) CD rom boot via isolinux
3) UEFI boot via grub
4) win32 boot (not sure what this is)

The first three have been tested on virtual hardware, and have the "it
works for me"(tm) tick. It'd be really good to get them tried on a
range of bare-metal set ups as well. And it'd also bee good if someone
can exercise and tick off the 4th boot option.

When it boots, it offers (or should offer) a small range of immediate
boot choices, including in particular either a "gtk" based or a text
console based (dialog) installation process. There are also speech
enabled variants, etc.

All the variants should work more or less in the same way as to the
installation procedure, so please try them all, and make note of
pecularities. In particular about missing or superfluous packages.

The documentation in the /docs tree is not up to date.

Note that the installation procedure is programmed in the particular
ASCII 2.1 "udeb" packages involved, and as such it might flow
differently from how it did before on ASCII 2.0.0 and jessie
installers. It's still good to make notes and report about any
pecularities, though there is a farily high barrier to change; the
notes will rather be captured and tended to for the upcoming beowulf
3.0 installers.

Thus: download at https://borta.rrq.id.au to do some test runs, and
report back. The final/public drop of ASCII 2.1 ISO sets for amd64 and
i386 is planned to be done late next week.

regards,

Ralph.
