Asunto: [devuan-dev] The state of RPi kernels...?
I recently noted that the Devuan ASCII install image works nicely on an
RPi3b+, booting directly from the hard disk after a couple trivial config
modifications. However, it was pointed out on #devuan-arm that we're not
actually using a packaged kernel on the RPi3 image, and sure enough, the
kernel that's shipped doesn't come from a package. Further, the packaged ARM
kernels won't boot the machine, although I didn't spend a lot of time
exploring past looking at the hung rainbow boot splash.

Can someone tell me what the current state of ARM kernels is, and if we have
plans to transition to using packaged kernels, such that it'll be possible to
have, for instance, security updates for kernels on this platform? Are there
issues with the vintage of kernel ASCII ships, with the default configuration,
or both? What do people see as the way forward on this platform?

Thanks.
