i agree with that, not a fan of js.
but yt is also full of javascript, (apart from it being google...). so
least worse solution, would be to just use some reliable peertube
instance, if you don't want to host your own.

also tried mediagoblin few years back.. good for pictures & galleries,
but couldn't get audio/video playback, no matter what..
it was kind of frustrating, so gave up trying. maybe this has changed by
now..(?)
