Just to advise anyone looking for info for this device, installed ascii
DVD to a 2TB WD disc (not the nvme). Because of the known firmware
issues, had to add noapic to boot options for DVD and also installed
system. Seems ok but early days.

I'm new to this distro, from Mint, so not really up to speed. The
kernel is 4.9, with no later kernels in the synaptic package manager as
installed?

Tried to install cinnamon during install, but it wouldn't proceed with
the default desktop checked for install as well.

Installer could do with a bigger font size for those of us without
20/20 vision.

Wifi worked during install, but credentials had to be re-entered on
booting installed system. Lenovo's dual wifi/bluetooth Atheros device
in use.
