we happen to be running the same at ungleich and I follow pretty much
your argumenttation. However there is one thing that we use a lot, which
you cannot achieve with cgit: Have a proper code review prior merge (aka
merge request, pull request) and an automated CI.
While you can easily re-implement this, at least for us the effort would
not be justified, as gitlab is still easy enough to be maintained.
