not sure if this is of relevance for your list: I am running rtorrent on my router, somewhat "daemonized" with dtach from '/etc/rc.local':

su - $RUNASUSER -c '/usr/bin/dtach -n /tmp/rtorrent.dtach /usr/bin/rtorrent' &
