Yes, but I'd focus more on that happening in debian. If sysvinit disappears there, there is zero incentive in init scripts being even kept, let alone maintained.

You and anyone else interested also want to subscribe to pkg-sysvinit-devel@??? as that's where the real talk is happening. I guess we can start by checking the archives, there's interesting stuff.
