Because I don't live all of my hacking hours in Emacs ;-P

Thanks. Also for the dzen2 suggestion.

Florian's suggestion would work nice in a terminal too, but having a
clock in the terminal, as well as the emacs mode-line and somewhere on
the screen feels like overkill. Just a single clock in a fixed location
that's visible no matter what application you happen to be using, that's
what I want.
