Assunto: [unSYSTEM] Hosting Provider
Looking through some old emails today and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for hosting aka even which country these days. Something I have not looked into for awhile as back in early 00s it seemed to get to the point where ownership of undersea pipes had almost all lost any independence. I did many years ago have an interesting conversation with a gentleman who was one of or maybe the first hosting company to deny access to government agencies to he’s ISP records. Now there was one brave courageous person. To provide the link to these seemingly random areas Does the hosting country matter aka for jurisdictional legal protections or in alot of cases these days counter protection laws. OR does it more come down to the company and their susceptibility to “bow to requests” without consideration for their users protection?

For awhile now many people have spoken about the importance of hosting our own systems again, as many of us did in the early days of the internet (also when power prices where cheaper and the connected world we lived in less complex on many levels) which leads me to also ask the question is it even possible to trust a third party service with your email and data hosting?

so I guess I have three questions I have been pondering for sometime again but this time with more urgency and situational importance

Is there hosting compan/ies that are reliable/trustworthy
Does the country that one hosts their email/data in still matter/important
Do we need to go back to looking at hosting important services ourselves

Keen on peoples thought on the topic be it to help me answer these questions or to correct me if I am missing the point?
