In order to disable a script the related symlinks should be deleted
from /etc/rcN.d. These commands should do the job:

invoke-rc.d SCRIPT stop # Stop it first
update-rc.d -f SCRIPT remove

To bring it back:

update-rc.d SCRIPT defaults
