ok, this is now solved thanks to Daniel!

yesterday I had a limited amount of time at work for this, just to
follow a bit the intricated setup of the whole thing ending up in a
json inside /etc/gitlab I believe. This to say it wasn't trivial, so
again thanks Daniel!
