Now looking for documentation. Every documentation file I find seems to have a
slightly different combination of options and commands, so I conclude the ones I
found are incomplete or obsolete or both.

Where can I find complete documentation for apt-*?

In particular, is there an option I can place on an install or remove command that
will report what it is going to do without actually doing it?
