if you have the 'security' repo in your sources.list:
The command 'apt-cache show chromium | grep Version' would list all
versions available to your system. If '55.0.2883.75-1~deb8u1' is listed:
Do you have the apt-listbugs package installed? It had pinned my
Chromium to version 53.??? after preventing the upgrade to 55.x due to
the "grave" bug #845984 ("Crash on facebook").
If so, check and edit your '/etc/apt/preferences.d/apt-listbugs'.
To change apt's behavior, edit '/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/10apt-listbugs'.
