"/etc/init.d/wicd" starts the daemon.

You need to remove the following file:

/etc/xdg/autostart/wicd-tray.desktop

On the other hand, pulling out a file from /etc/init.d/ isn't enough.
You need to run:

update-rc.d -f wicd remove
