Matt Asay is a professional 'open core' (formerly known as 'shareware')
apologist who is always busy with pointing out that 'shareware' is
really 'open source' as 'open source' doesn't exist (except as nefarious
marketing ploy by anyone but 'shareware companies'). "Giving everything
away for free" is obviously not a viable business model as there's no
return but this ought to be too obvious for pointing it out that
frequently. Considering this, his statements about companies which don't
(or at least usually don't) sell 'code access rights' should be taken
with a grain of salt.
