Hi folks,

just a question about network names, which I do not understand.

I have two different computers, both are installed with the same
versions of debian packages. But one of it has enp1s0 as network
interface name( my EEEPC 1005HGO) , the other one the old eth0 scheme
(my Aspire 7520G).

Both got 70-persistent-net-rules configured.

Now I can not understand, why one of them is using enp1s0. Who is
deciding the name? I read the documentations and the blogs, but I did
not understand, why both machines are different.

As I am not happy (at the moment) with the new naming, I added the
if.names=0 to the grub commandline.

Would be nice, if someone could help me to understand.

enp1s0 is the new way. The new way is always the best way. Get with the
plan.

Names like enp1s0 and wlp0s22f0u1u4 (yes, that's a real device name,
see my sig) were championed by Freedesktop.Org, the people who guide the
future of Linux (with some help from Redhat and Lennart Poettering).
They know what Linux should be: They have a roadmap for the future. You
might have heard of them through their breakthrough work on systemd.

Those who fight the Freedesktop.org guided future are neckbeards.
They're demotivating whingers. They don't want to work or pay, they
just want the developers to do their bidding for free.

Hans, if you don't like wlp0s22f0u1u4, you should join all the
whinging, demotivating neckbeards at Devuan. Those refugees from the
20th century prioritize functionality over newness. If you prioritize
functionality over newness, we don't want you in the Debian project, go
join the misfits at Devuan.
