"It depends". I happen to be in possession of a fairly large book almost
exculsively dedicated to (sometimes rather crude) reimplementation of
parts of the C++ standard library (and I manly battered my way through
most of it).

I could write more to this but IMHO, both arguments and
counter-arguments have been made a thousand times already.
