I do stand corrected. Yes, I guess I was doing something wrong. I
installed debian jessie again in a vm to test this and some other
stuff. Yes, sysvinit-core is there as you described, and can be
installed. Doing so gives me a /etc/inittab again, and I can use that
to prevent agetty from running on consoles 2-6 in multiuser run
levels, which is something systemd as pid1 didn't let me do as I
mentioned in another thread. As you also point out though, this isn't
a choice, and systemd is still very much an intrusive part of the
installed system. It also seems not to like being replaced as
pid1. After installing sysvinit-core on my test vm, I get something
like this after I login on consoles 1-6:

[ 321.691816] systemd-logind[2190]: Failed to start user service:
Unknown unit: user@???

I literally muttered "oh shut-up" under my breath when I saw that.
