None of these 2 line pairs is really needed: You can always just use the
literal string directly, eg,

fputs("auto lo\n", fp);


[...]

>         int q = exec(command, s);

or

exec("/sbin/iwlist wlan0 scanning | /bin/grep ESSID", s)
