Systemd is not an option. Uselessd is an option, Runit is an option, s6 is an option, OpenRC is an option. Why, because any of these are init/supervisor sane replacements and/or extensions to sysvinit.

When you replace the underlying system core with a completely alien hypervisor, you kill the option, and kill choice. Once systemd is in, it is in.

I suppose there are some people like yourself who will always feel that
way, and that is quite frankly - "totally awesome".

All that I ever try to say that I think there should be room for
both sorts to make Devuan a home. Yes, I think Devuan should have
systemd as an option, but only as an option - never part of the base
system.

I'm sorry Jim, but I see Funtoo as really a bad example of the
situation.

Funtoo is source based, and Devuan is not. They are both Linux but it
is two very different worlds of users, like apples and oranges. It's a
LOT easier to excise systemd when you are not expected to provide a
binary. The minute you are expected to provide an official binary and
have major features removed, users start to complain that your version
is less than everyone else.

Usually, the only ones who use source versions are power users and
programmers who understand and accept the trade-offs in compiling your
own OS.

Have a great day! =)
