Vdev is now in a functional state and I use it on
my desktop everyday.

vdev is now doing everything I used udev for.

I however don't use it in initramfs where I use busybox mdev.

More testers would probably be good for more use-cases so
agreed now packaging would be desired.

But as I said before vdev(libudev-compat) + spacefm auto-detection of
plugged devices is working for me. I don't want automounting but I
believe it would be easy to setup with udevil!?
