*dodges thrown rocks*
This is probably the second-most controversial project in *NIXdom in
recent years, so all haters: earmuffs, please.
I am happy to report that (most of) the GNOME3 Desktop Environment has
been made to work systemd-free, in all its spiffy, OpenGL-y goodness!
The only thing that I don't quite have working yet is gdm3, but slim
instead works just fine. I have only tried one other DM (wdm), and it
required a restart in order for things to work quite right (No
acceleration or power management unless you "service wdm restart", for
some reason).
I've created a Devuan GitLab group in which to dump all of the gnome-y
projects:
https://git.devuan.org/groups/gnome
In Debian, all gnome projects are maintained in SVN instead of git, so
these are new histories.
There are two other non-gnome Debian projects required for a gnome
desktop that are not yet in Devuan proper:
https://git.devuan.org/jaretcantu/accountsservice
https://git.devuan.org/jaretcantu/realmd
I have all of these packages built and ready for use on my supplementary
mirror:
http://pkg.realitysend.net/
I have only run-tested the amd64 flavors, but i386 is available, too.
Happy gnome-ing!
Jaret Cantu
