it's my understanding that EFI is actually a deprecated precursor to UEFI.

I use rEFind as a boot manager, as it it very straightforward, and does a very nice job with all OS entries. I understand that there are instructions for installing Debian with GRUB only floating around, but I don't find it necessary.
