To maybe solve some of the disagreement here, imagine a to-do list
for Devuan as a project.

(I hope I am not misinterpreting Franco)

Some people seem to demand that one of the things on the to-do list
says:
'Put in effort to keep systemd out because we hate it'.

Franco, instead, points out that every item on that list should be a
positive statement promoting freedom of choice like so:
'repackage foo so it can co-exist with ba'.

Now, since, from what I can see, systemd is by design a cathedral
approach, it will conflict with the bazaar approach as shown above.

This means that by virtue of the 'freedom of choice' paradigm:
If systemd upstream or any interested party puts in effort to make
systemd fit in with the bazaar approach, then we should welcome them
with open arms.

If no one does that work, then systemd will not work in Devuan.

But the reason for that, and that is the key, will be:
It will not be supported because upstream chose not to be compatible
with the bazaar approach, not because we did anything to keep it out.

Does that make more sense?
