I'd say this is your best chance for free hardware thats also mass
produced (=cheep).
by separating SOC (cpu) from device it means that devices can be turned
into more secure devices with a cpu card that is more free. instead of
having to make a hole new product range when new soc comes along you use
swap the cards your devices to switch to your prefered new one. device
designers can focus on making the device instead of soc upgrade. like
making the device more secure or if the team isn't interested. it's not
the end of the world as the bar to making a device is lower, so another
team could make a device range that has a security focus from scratch or
based on existing designs for example.
this cpu card is a open specification/standard, eoma-68.
and just needs your dam pre-orders via crowd fund to get the tested
devices/products rolling off the production line :D
