I agree distributing a VM or image has its drawbacks, but I think the need
is there and it is better to get started and improve as the project
evolves. The creation of a VM or image with darkwallet and darkmarket is
easy but it would be time consuming in the long run.

Forgive my ignorance, but is Tails required for alpha testing the dark*
apps? Can you give me some details how the install script for Tails would
work? Would it be executed after Tails is running? Would running possibly
buggy versions of the dark* apps on Tails be a Tor security risk?

Thomas's suggestion to use Vagrant is a good one. The VM is very
light-weight and can be included as part of the git repository.
