Your sexuality point is quite insightful and I think you're right. However, I'm sure you'll be the first to admit that it is by no means the only lever of control, nor the only "secret" one may wish to protect.
Still, perhaps a kind of person-to-person openness and transparency _is_ the only thing that will diffuse this. In that sense they may, oddly enough, be forcing our hand for the better. Mark Zuckerberg looks more like a great prophet than a tyrannical despot in such a scenario...
Coming back to where we are right now though, I think your point as highlighted below is the real truth of it, and underlines my point about the hydra that has apparently been created.
