Hi Jaromil,

forget about SLIM if you do not know it. I played around with it a bit
when I used arch. If you are interested you can have a short look at
the arch wiki:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Slim

The last time I touched slim was a few weeks ago when I set up a
Aptosid machine (Debian based distribution) with XFCE and auto login
for my media PC.

XDM should match perfect here.

As for other desktop environments / window managers I only know LXDE
from Knoppix. I never used pretty much anything beside Gnome2 and
XFCE. :)
