On startup I believe you can select different graphics
options before you boot (I can't remember what they
are as haven't changed from the default myself) -maybe
have a look at that?
Alternatively, login to the command-line interface
you're left with when X fails to start as root, and
perhaps try edting the xorg settings
type nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf to bring up the file in
an editor, and change the entry for S3 in the Graphics
Device section to "vesa", then try and start X again
(come out of nano and type startx) .
if you try the latter and that works then perhaps best
to activate a nest on the machine's harddisk before
rebooting so it remembers the changes to xorg.conf
I'm new to dyne myself, but just a couple of
suggestions !
