i want to ask you for some orientation about playing movie files

when I try to play quicktime mov files using mplayer, I have a fatal
error like this:

" MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the Mplayer code_or_ in your drivers _or_ in your gcc
version. "

but at the same time, if I open the same mov file using Bon echo
(firefox) mplayer recognize the file and plays, but comsuming all the
system load.

what can I do? any opinion will be great
