I can't answer the other questions, but to log in as root it's luther then luther, unless you have changed them from default as I did.
I had a similar X crash the other day as a result of me monkeying around with the settings. I used the startx command to restart the desktop, but I noticed that it was a second session, because I was unable then to write to any document files. The solution was to restart the computer.

Subject: [dyne:bolic] Recover after X-crash (resend)

Got no response on this so resending:It seems that once there is an active network (other than a simple NAT type thing), X will crash. This happens running in both a Qemu VM or a VirtualBox VM with "host networking". With the NAT, Vbox run dyne quite well. (Qemu defaults to better networking than the NAT.)After the X crash, I have the option of logging on. There is an active nest and I should be able to fix this. How do I log on as root? (Console login!)Any ideas why X is crashing (ICE messages appear).Obviously, one would not run dynebolic in such a manner to make multimedia use of it. I am simply experimenting with virtual machines a dyne iso file is a good a place to start as any. (Knoppix is an alternative)._______________________________________________dynebolic mailing listdynebolic@???http://lists.dyne.org/mailman/listinfo/dynebolic
