i'm using d:b to transfer files over 20giga between cd-hd (ext3

the steadiest and the best software to use for filetransfer i find to be
rsync(1), it's a commandline tool, well worth to learn, to copy files
between local or network mounted filesystems.

another tool for which would be worth a gtkdialog script...
