The quick and dirty way
Load the 2.1 system and nest.
Copy all the files in /mnt/nest to a spare hard drive or burn to a CD.
Start 2.2 with a new nest.
*** Be careful not to overwrite updated /etc or other system files,
Presumably it's just your home files you need,
Copy only the files you need from the old nest tree to the new one.
