Thank you; that's what I was looking for. Here's my distilled
summary. Does this look OK?
===========================================================================
Based on...
https://www.devuan.org/os/documentation/install-guides/excalibur/upgrade-to-excalibur
exit X entirely; log in as root at a real text console
update and upgrade and usrmerge
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
apt-get install usrmerge
Change /etc/apt/sources.list to the following. Why the commented
"backports" line?
deb
http://deb.devuan.org/merged excalibur main non-free-firmware non-free contrib
deb
http://deb.devuan.org/merged excalibur-updates main
deb
http://deb.devuan.org/merged excalibur-security main
#deb
http://deb.devuan.org/merged excalibur-backports main
The upgrade.
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade
if any packages fail, fix and restart
apt-get -f install
apt-get dist-upgrade
clean up orphaned packages
apt-get autoremove --purge
apt-get autoclean
===========================================================================
I'll be upgrading my newer "hot backup" machine first. It has a QEMU
VM hosting ArcoOS running an old OS/2 turn-based game. It uses VNC
"DISPLAY :1" (X is not running). I access it from my main desktop via
vinaigre. Can the QEMU VM keep running during the upgrade?
