    Well, if the dozens of  desktop have a distro installed, this
distro manages packages in pretty all directories, even without the
usrmerge: /bin, /sbin, /usr, /etc, /var; and all must be in sync
dpkg-wise. How do you maintain the installation of all these systems if
they don't own /usr? I've never done that. Instead I ran diskless hosts
with the whole OS feeded by a NAS.
