Sounds like there are more complex autoplay settings under the hood as well, overriding this behavior once you have interacted with a tab: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Media/block-autoplay

At a quick glance, I didn't really make sense of it.

Alternatively, you might be interested in this feature of uBlock Origin, which allows media elements over a size you can set to be blocked by default:

Seems like many have had to resort to that. It might not be a one click to play on the element itself, but there should be a relatively simple workflow to toggle it off in uBlock's interface as needed.
