Dear Atteqa,
I'm sorry that that small expression hurt you so much, and that it was
offered without providing context.
My sentence was a nod to the thinking of indigenous leaders from South
America like Ailton Krenak proposing "ideas to postpone the end of the
world" or Davi Kopenawa explaining the role of the Yanomami in keeping
the sky from falling. These and others represent peoples whose worlds
have been under asymmetrical attack for hundreds of years, stating that
in the face of imminent collapse, we still need to keep finding ways to
resist, to be together, to build new worlds.
Obviously, I find these terrible times almost unbearable too and hope
for a change in narrative and in how power is exerted globally and
regionally. Meanwhile, I'll keep caring for things at the small scale
I'm capable of. And I'll certainly be more mindful of the use of words
and the importance of context. Thanks for calling out.
Best regards,
F
